I have been thinking for a long while of sending you some poems I wrote, 'On the night they shot my childhood mate John Lennon'. Then I was invited by Eric Griffiths, and the Lads, in The Quarrymen Band, to stay at their hotel with them, in Edinburgh, when they had a gig in The Queens Hall, with the Bootles, which was in fact a truly great night as after the Gig we sat upstairs in the Green Room of The Queens Hall and just talked about our childhood in Woolton, Liverpool, until it was long after time to go to bed.
In March 2002 I got a Gig for The Quarrymen with The Bootles, (who are based in Denmark) at Randers Denmark. I introduced the lads on Randers Stage in the Quarrymen briefly in Danish & English, and read out the poems, I attach in Danish, (which I translated for the event) and talked about our childhood, and skiffle music Lonny, and others, and played briefly the Mouthie (Mouth Organ) and Jews Harp, on stage as we did as kids. My talking Danish about John and our childhood went down well with the Danish audience.. But as I have always enjoyed, the quiet life, and being a beekeeper, I have not never ever looked for the lime light.
But as I am over the 3 score years & on the way any way to the 10, I have decided as you have done such a great wonderful job at the Beatles Ireland Web Page, in truthfully keeping the memory going, and as you are your selves now 10 years old. I thought I would send the poems, and see if you would like to publish them.on the web site? It was not uncommon for us as kids to write poems,in and around Woolton, some thing I have since done all my life, mostly in the last 40 years in Cumberland Dialect, and my Mothers Lowland Scots or Gaelic, I have appeared at quite a few Music Festivals in Scottish Borders, in the original dialect poetry competition and won prizes for my dialect poems from time, or on stage with my friends in our group called 'Border Bards'.
Any way Congratulations on your 10 years, you are truly lovely folk, keep up the very good work.
