BEATLES
Records on Vee-Jay

BEATLESVoted Beatles book of the year by the US Goldmine magazine in the December issue.

This book is an absolute must for any serious Beatles fan. It tells the complete story of how the boys ended up on a small Chicago based label Vee Jay after capitol records refused to release ‘Please Please Me’ b/w ‘Ask Me Why’. The record was offered to Capitol by Transglobal Music Co. Inc. Transglobal being an agent for EMI in the USA. How time and again Capitol turned down The Beatles singles. On being offered ‘She Loves You’ David Dexter, A+R at Capitol records told the president of Capitol Records Alan Livingston: "Alan they’re a bunch of long haired kids. They’re nothing, forget it".

The book also catalogues the different variations on Vee Jay records with excellent pictures of the various album covers and record labels also highlighting the counterfeit albums which look very similar to the real thing but are not as valuable.

Also the story of how in 1975 an EP of the Beatles surfaced. Titled Their Biggest Hits tracks being Love Me Do/Twist and Shout/There’s A Place /P.S. I Love You. This clever fake was on the Tollie Label {Tollie was a subsidiary of the Vee-Jay Record Co.} and was the brainchild of two Beatles fans in North Western America who wanted to see if they could fool the experts. On being discovered a full refund was offered to any purchaser .In total 10 copies were sold of a stock of 100, and nobody looked for a refund.

The book is hard back and the presentation is of an extremely high standard with extensive information on WHEN the records were pressed, WHERE the records were pressed, HOW MANY copies were sold, and WHY some records are so much rarer than others. Bruce Spizer, author of this book has left no stone unturned during his research for this book .You will keep coming back to this book again and again.

This is a publication that you must have. In my humble opinion.

P.S. Did I mention the fact that it contains hundreds of high standard colour photos of the boys?

Well done Mr. Spizer 11 out of 10.
