Paul McCartney to
Play in Ireland
Paul
McCartney is coming to Ireland in May for a show at Dublin's RDS
Arena.
The date of McCartney's first Irish gig in 40
years is 27 May with tickets, priced at €75 and €105,
going on sale Thursday week (27th Feb).
Paul McCartney Live in
Dublin
Paul McCartney is to play his first concert in Dublin
in 40 years when he performs the biggest show of Beatles songs
ever seen at the RDS Arena on 27th May 2003.
Paul McCartney will play the RDS Arena on May 27th, performing
his all-hits 'Back In The World' show. The concert will be part
of Paul's first tour of Europe since his New World Tour of 1993
- and his first show in Ireland since The Beatles played their
only-ever Irish show at Dublin's Adelphi Cinema in November 1963.
Tickets - priced at €75 General Admission and €105
Seated - go on sale this Thursday, 27th February at 9.00am sharp
and will be limited to six per person. The ticket hotline number
is 1890 925 100.
Fronting a lean new band, Paul will bring to Dublin his
acclaimed and hugely-successful new show that last year broke
box office records all over America and won Billboard magazine's
Tour Of The Year accolade as the most triumphant concert trek
of 2002.
Paul McCartney's two and a half hour, 36-song show caused
crowd mania last year in Mexico, Japan and America - where it
was dubbed "the greatest hits show on Earth". The show
includes 22 Beatles songs plus more than a dozen hits from his
Wings and solo periods. With 22 Beatles songs in the set, Paul
McCartney's show will feature twice the number of songs that The
Beatles played in their 11-song set in Dublin in 1965.
The 'Back In The World' show in Dublin will include performance
of Beatles songs never before played live in Europe.
Said Paul: "Playing in Dublin is going to mean a
lot to me because Ireland is such a special place for me; my mother
originally hailed from Ireland, it's where Heather and I chose
to be married and I have a lot of ties with the land and the people.
It's been a long time since I played there, so I'm hoping that
this will be one rocking night to remember.
"I think people are going to like this gig - when
I was thinking of what songs to play I just imagined myself as
one of the audience and thought 'What would I like to hear him
play?'
"So that means we'll be playing some of my Beatles
stuff - rather a lot of Beatles stuff, actually - some Wings stuff
and some more recent stuff; so basically the show pretty much
spans my whole career. And I'm really getting off on playing it
all with my new band, their energy and musicianship is phenomenal".
Paul McCartney's new band features Rusty Anderson and
Brian Ray on guitars, Paul 'Wix' Wickens on keyboards and Abe
Laboriel Jr. on drums.
In tandem with the European tour, on March 17th EMI Music
will release two special souvenirs of the tour - a 37-song live
album of the show, titled 'Back In The World' and 'Back In The
U.S.' - a 3-hour DVD filmed inside the tour during its run across
America.
The 'Back In The World' 2-CD album follows the 'Back
In The U.S.' album that was recently released in America as a
souvenir of the first US leg of the world tour. As the set list
of songs for the European tour will differ from the American shows,
the 'Back In The World' tracklist has been changed so that the
European album is a proper souvenir of the European show.
The 'Back In The World' album will feature She's Leaving
Home, Calico Skies, Michelle and Let 'Em In - alongside such classics
as All My Loving, Back In The USSR, Band On The Run, Blackbird,
Can't Buy Me Love, Carry That Weight, Coming Up, Eleanor Rigby,
Fool On The Hill, Getting Better, Hello Goodbye, Here There And
Everywhere, Hey Jude, I Saw Her Standing There, Jet, Live And
Let Die and many others.
The 'Back In The US' DVD was previously only available
in the USA and Japan, where it has already been a huge hit as
sales in America alone have been triple-platinum status. The DVD
has been dubbed "a rock and road movie" as it reveals
not only the onstage concert action but also takes the viewer
right inside the tour, filming Paul, his band and roadcrew backstage
and offstage; inside dressing rooms, in the limos with Paul and
even aboard his chartered jet for after-show mile-high party antics.
Paul McCartney's world tour, his most successful since
The Beatles, began in Oakland, California, in April 2002. It has
played through the USA, Canada, Mexico and Japan, 58 concerts
in 37 cities, performing to one million people and breaking box
office records in 21 towns during 18 weeks on the road. Paul McCartney's
'Back In The World Tour' will drive through Europe during March,
April and May. The tour will include concerts in:
Paris - March 25
Barcelona - March 28
Sheffield - April 5 & 6
Manchester - April 9
Birmingham - April 13 & 14
London - April 18 & 19
Arnhem - April 25
Koln - April 27
Hannover - April 30
Vienna - May 14
Hamburg - May 21
Dublin - May 27

7th November 1963 in the Adelphi Theatre, Dublin. Since then Paul has
had numerous world tours and has always omitted to play here.
He always says he would love too play here and was working
on it but it never happened. Paul is planning a European tour after
his very successful Driving U.S.A. Tour and Beatles Ireland would like
your support to let Paul know we would love to see him include a live
concert here.
Your support with this petition will be highlighted in a publicity campaign
for Paul to recognise his loyal Irish fans.

Hi,
I would like you to add my name to the protest list for Paul
McCartney to play Ireland next year
Regards
Sarah

As someone who wasn't around the last time Paul played here
I would love to get the opportunity to listen live to (the better) half
of the greatest songwriting duo ever. If only I had been born 40 years
earlier.....in any case I'd love to see him perform here and with a
little luck maybe he will..bad pun, sorry.Come on Paul give us a gig,
Ciarán, Rathfarnham, Dublin.

Dear Pete
What I would love is for Paul to play 5 nights in the Point as this
would give us all an opportunity to see him close up. I don't think
Slane would be best suited at this stage of his career. I would love
to hear him do an acoustic set at the start of the concert before the
band comes out. Nick Lowe does this very successfully whenever he plays
here. Also the 5 nights would give him the opportunity of inviting a
few Irish stars to duet on Beatle songs. Macca and Bono on 'Helter Skelter'
anyone?
Cheers
Dermot Walsh
Hi guys Nigel Here,
I would like to add my name to your petition to get "Macca"
To play Ireland. I personally would love to see him play a gig here.
I also believe that because of his Irish roots that he should give something
back to the Irish people.
C'mon Macca, You'd be most welcome in Ireland and we'd all
love to see you here!!
Nigel

Hi
I would love if Paul would play some concerts over here.
It would be all my Christmases all together he wrote a song about Ireland
he married over here why not play.
so please please me.
Jon from Cabra

Hi,
Yes it's time Paul recognised his Irish roots and came back
to play! His mum was called Mary Patricia Mohan from County Monaghan.
She came over when she was 11 to Liverpool. She became a health visitor
and midwife and met his dad, who was from the North.
Thx,
Dermot.

Hi
As a guy who was outside the Adelphi on that night
in `63 (I could not get a ticket) I would love to add my name to the
campaign to try and get Paul to play here. My mates would love to join
in also, hope it works,
Tommy Whelan (Tallaght)
John Healy (Finglas)
Kevin O`Reilly (Tallaght)
Gerry Byrne (Tallaght)
Eugene Byrne (Templeoge)
Paul its not for the want of trying but persistence
has to pay off after this length of time how many times have we wrote
letters petitions from fans not just here in Ireland but fans all over.
The Irish Media any time you are interviewed are
asked the same question when playing Ireland always your reply I'm working
on it. When we met you first in Liverpool at the classical concert and
presented you with a fine piece of waterford crystal engraved in Irish
you were asked please play Ireland. You smiled and said those famous
words "I'm working on it". When you got married here we presented
you both with a lovely framed coat of arms of both your families and
again were asked please play Ireland.
When in London recently a petition was hand delivered
to your house, you were in, we know that because you waved at us and
sent your security man to remove us which I didn't think was to Paul
McCartney like.
So Paul we are not going to give up the Irish fans deserve better treatment
than being constantly ignored REMEMBER YOUR IRISH ROOTS. WE DO. Looking
forward to your return.
Persistent Pete

Paul, please please play here in Ireland. You have thousands
upon thousands of fans wishing you could play here. Any gig would
no doubt be a sell out so that shouldn't be an issue. Maybe squeeze
us in on the up and coming tour?
Phil

I am delighted to give my support to this
campaign.
it was 40 years ago............please come back in 2003!
from one of your greatest fans.
Maurice McCarthy.....Wexford

Would love to see Paul play in Ireland,
anywhere, anytime. We need to get this petition going properly,
any suggestions? Perhaps getting the media involved a bit more?
