Rod Davies

Rod DaviesBanjo player with the Quarry Men skiffle group. The bespectacled youth was in Quarry Bank’s 4a class with John Lennon and as John knew that Rod’s parents had just bought him a banjo, he invited him to join the group.

Although the Quarry Men generally travelled to their gigs by public transport, Rod's father occasionally drove them to appearances at local competitions in his car.

Musically, while John was becoming more interested in adding rock ‘n’ roll to their repertoire. Rod wanted them to play pure folk music. When John left Quarry Bank. Rod continued into the sixth form and became too busy with his studies to remain a member.

Rod was a member of the Quarry Men from March 1957 until February 1958.
